The Daventry Experiment of 1935 was the first successful demonstration that aircraft could be detected using radio waves, marking the birth of practical radar.
The Daventry Experiment was conducted on February 26, 1935, by physicist Robert Watson-Watt and his assistant Arnold Wilkins near Daventry, England.
Its primary goal was to test whether radio waves could detect aircraft, addressing the urgent need for early warning systems as Britain faced the threat of fast bomber aircraft in the mid-1930s.
The experiment used a BBC shortwave transmitter on Borough Hill, Daventry, and a receiver set up in a field in Litchborough.
