TOUR OVERVIEW
In this extended 2 hour guided Melton Mowbray Navigation & River Eye Tour we will explore Egerton Park before we make our way from the Leicester Road bridge to Rhubarb Island by following the route of the Canal and the River Eye on a well-maintained footpath meaning you can focus your energy on enjoying the sights and sounds of the canal’s route through the greenery of Melton’s countryside.
Along the route we will talk about the history of some of the sights we will see including Egerton Lodge, Egerton Park, Hymans Pleasure Boats, Melbourne House, the Railways, eye Kettleby Lock and the weir, the archery butts and the medieval church of St Leonards.
For any budding nature lovers joining us, keep your eyes peeled and ears open to experience the sight and sounds of the rich and varied wildlife we can see along the way.
On this Melton Mowbray Navigation Tour on behalf of the Melton & Oakham Waterways Society we will follow the route of the old canal from Melton Mowbray’s Burton End, through the Town Park and across into Egerton Park and discover more about its history and some of the characters involved.
