SUMMARY:Melton Mowbray Navigation Tour
DESCRIPTION:The Melton Mowbray Navigation tour looks at the history of Melt
on's canal that was set up in 1791 by an Act of Parliament.&nbsp\;\n\nThe
Act gave the Melton Mowbray Navigation Company of Proprieters powers to "m
ake the rivers Wreake and Eye navigable for the carriage of coal\, stone\,
lime\, limestone\, timber\, lead nd all kinds of merchandise".\n\nThe ide
a behind Melton's Canal or the Melton Mowbray Navigation to give it its pr
oper name was conceived during the height of England's canal building mani
a in the 1700's.\n\nJust as the 1790s had seen national enthusiasm for can
als\, the 1840s were to see the start of a national craze for railway-buil
ding and the Syston-Peterborough railway came through Melton in 1848.\n\nT
he introduction of the railways slowly saw a reduction in canal traffic an
d the Melton Mowbray Navigation was officially closed by an Act of Abandon
ment in 1877.\n\nOn this FREE* 2 hour guided walk on behalf of the&nbsp\;M
elton &amp\; Oakham Waterways Society we will follow the route of the old
canal&nbsp\; from Melton Mowbray's Burton End\, through the Town Park and
across into Egerton Park and discover more about its history and some of t
he characters involved.\n\n\nTours depart at 10:00Hrs from Council Offices
 \, Parkside\, Station Approach.\nDuration 120 minutes (2 Hours).\n\nTour g
roup size – maximum 20.\n\n\nTo reserve your place\, click on the link a
bove or emaill: meltonhistoryfare@gmail.com\n\n&nbsp\;\n\n*FREE with the s
upport of The National Lotteries Heritage Fund\n&nbsp\;\n\n\nIs tipping in
cluded and if not\, how much should I tip?\n\nTipping is an expected - tho
ugh not compulsory - component of your tour program here in the United Kin
gdom\, and an expression of satisfaction with the guide who has assisted y
ou on your tour.\n\nTips are not included in the tour price however\, it i
s customary to tip tour guides £2-£5 per tour\, though the amount is alw
ays at your discretion.\n\nAlthough it may not be customary to you\, it is
of considerable significance to the people who will take care of you duri
ng your travels. There are several times during the trip where there is op
portunity to tip the local guides. You may do this individually\, or your
 guide will offer to collect the money and tip as a group.\n\n\n&nbsp\;
