DESCRIPTION:For our March HistoryFare talk\, we welcome John Manterfield wh
 o will present his talk "Grantham and the Second World War.”\n\nJohn is 
 the Chair of Grantham Civic Society&nbsp\; and actively involved in St Wul
 fram's Church in Grantham.\n\nHaving undertaken research at Exeter Univers
 ity with a thesis on the Topographical Development of Grantham 1535-1835\,
  John has published a chapter on Grantham in the later medieval period in 
 The Making of Grantham.&nbsp\; &nbsp\;He also edited Newton's Grantham&nbs
 p\; - the Hall Book and life in a Puritan town&nbsp\; and two volumes for 
 the Lincoln Record Society.&nbsp\; Borough Government in Newton's Grantham
 - The Hall Book of Grantham 1649 -1662&nbsp\; &nbsp\;&amp\; Borough Govern
 ment in Restoration Grantham - The Hall Book of Grantham 1662-1704.\n\nJoh
 n's talk will cover the inter-war history of Grantham with a brief overvie
 w of council housing and slum clearance\,&nbsp\; preparations for war\,&nb
 sp\; Grantham under attack\,&nbsp\; scaling down\, VE day and peace at las
 t.\n\nTalk starts at 8pm\n\nCost £3/person payable on the door.
